on some computers and may result in errors - you should only
make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any
consequences that may arise. Firstly, you dont have to learn any programming languages at
all, you can purchase a software program that does the programming
for you. The most popular software programs that are used to
develop websites are Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft Frontpage.
These programs are often knows as "WYSIWYG" which
stands for "What you see is what you get".
However, to have a good understading on how web programming
and publishing works it is good idea to learn the programming
languages used.
The first programming language you should concentrate on is
Hyper-text Mark up Language otherwise known as HTML. This a
simple language and is at the core of web programming, if you
are interested in web programming I recommend that you purchase
a good HTML book to get started.
If you are just after a web presence or looking to do a simple
websites HTML may be sufficient for your needs.
HTML however is the tip of the iceberg concerning the languages
you will need to make your site interactive. HTML is enough
for you put together a website but if you then want to take
the site further you will need to look at scripting languages.
Of the scripting languages I personally recommend PHP or ASP
where the program is run on the web server (where your site
is hosted), alternatively a good client side (program run on
the visitor to the websites computer) scripting language is
Javascript.
