I clear my History folder weekly, but even after I just deleted
all the websites I have previously visited, I noticed that there
are certain URLs that just will not go away.
General Disclaimer - Happy Online
would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible
for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work
on some computers and may result in errors - you should only
make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any
consequences that may arise. We have already looked at various methods of attempting to
delete addresses from the address bar and if you are not familiar
with these please visit the recent
questions section.
I strongly suggest that if you have these types of problems
it is worth doing a search for, on your favorite search engine,
software that deletes/detects spyware and for software that
clears your address bar history.
In addition to the methods explained in the above mentioned
pages you can also amend the addresses that appear in the registry
(this will amend the standard 25 last addresses that appear
when you select the drop down arrow.)
(Note Extreme Caution should be taken when making amendments
to the Registry and Happy Online are unable to accept any fault
should mistakes be made or errors occur. It is recommended that
you make a back up of the registry before making alterations)
To access the Registry Select Start followed by Run and type
Regedit.
The Registry is in a similar format to Windows Explorer, Navigate
in the left pane to HKEY_CURRENT_USERS/Software/Microsoft/Internet
Explorer/TypedURLs.
In the right pane you will see the list of previously typed
URLs - here you can locate the URLs you do not want appearing
in your address bar and rename them - It is easier to rename
the URL to a URL which you do not mind appearing in the address
bar rather than deleting it. Deleting the URL will result in
the other entries being out of order - eg if you delete url
3 you will have the following situation - url1,url2,url4 - with
url3 missing - this would need correcting therefore just renaming
the entry is the simple option.
