What is a Computer Virus ?

A Computer Virus is a program that is designed to cause damage to other programs or a hard drive.

The Virus is a program in itself that can attach itself to other programs. The Virus can therefore be spread by floopy disks/CDs, by downloading programs from the Internet and by Email.

It is therefore prudent to run anti-virus software (software that is designed to detect and destroy viruses) on:-

• Floopy disks/CDs that you may purchase or obtain from someone else.
• When downloading files (especially program files) from the Internet.
• On Emails - especially attachments from unknown sources.

The anti-virus software needs to be regular updated to ensure that it can detect the newest viruses.
