I have recently found some images saved on my computer and I am not the one who did this. I was wondering if someone could get into my computer without my knowledge. Or how to find out who & when this was downloaded onto my computer?

General Disclaimer - Happy Online would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work on some computers and may result in errors - you should only make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any consequences that may arise.

Although it is possible that someone could get into your computer it is unlikely that they would place images on your system. (Someone could get on your computer if a Trojan has been installed - when someone tries to enter your computer through a Trojan they are much more likely to be looking for passwords, credit card details etc - search for software that removes Trojans if you wish to scan your hard drive for Trojans and related programs.)

I think the most likely explanation for the above could be one of the following three:-

- Someone else has access to your PC and they have downloaded the images you have found.

- The files may have been downloaded from a Pop-up window that you closed - however part of these images still may have downloaded before you closed the window.

- You have visited a site/newsgroup that has downloaded these images without your knowledge.

If these images are in your Temporary Internet Files, you can probably tell when these were downloaded onto your computer by looking at the last accessed date, from the Temporary Internet Files you may also be able to locate what Website they were downloaded from.
