When watching a DVD on my PC yesterday the pointer on the screen starting moving whilst i was away from the machine, brought up various menus and actually shut down the whole computer. A few days ago I noticed the cursor select a menu without me touching the mouse but thought nothing of it until this happened yesterday. Could this be a virus? I installed Norton a couple of years ago and so ran a check on that but nothing came up and I've been told this isn't normal activity for a computer virus? any advice?

This is a worrying sign and I agree it is not normal activity for the common definition of a computer virus - it is however typical activity from a Trojan program.

A Trojan is a program that opens access to your computer to other individuals while you are online - a worrying thought ! (This might not be the cause of the problems for the individual who posed the above question - but must be considered.)

First off - as you installed Norton Anti-Virus a couple of years ago it is best to make sure that you are running the latest updates. Hopefully running Norton Anti-Virus with the latest updates may locate the problem.

If this does not cure the problem then do a search on your favorite search engine for Trojan remover - hopefully you will be able to find some free software that detects and deletes Trojans.
