What are Temporary Internet Files?
General Disclaimer - Happy Online
would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible
for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work
on some computers and may result in errors - you should only
make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any
consequences that may arise. Temporary Internet Files are pieces of data stored by your
computer hard disk after accessing a website. The files can
include the web page, graphics from that page or maybe even
video or music files that were accessed while surfing the internet.
The reason that your computer saves some parts of the internet
on your local PC is to improve the speed and efficiency that
you access information. If you visit the same site regularly
your computer will access data from your Temporary Internet
Files folders instead of downloading it from the Internet.
As files are saved on your local computer it is also possible
to view this files while not connected to the internet (Working
Offline) and this could save you dial up time.
The amount of data that your computer saves to the Temporary
Internet Folders can depend on your user settings. To change
these settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer access the tools
menu at the top of the browser window and select Internet Options.
A new window will appear, under the general tab of this window
is the Temporary Internet Files heading. Under the Temporary
Internet Files section you can delete all of the Temporary Internet
Files or choose Settings. If you choose settings a new window
will appear where you can increase or decrease the amount of
disk space used - if you choose the delete option the Temporary
Internet Files will be deleted.
