General Disclaimer - Happy Online would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work on some computers and may result in errors - you should only make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any consequences that may arise.

Internet Explorer has a function where it auto completes, or suggests information that you may wish to type in, this facility in the address bar is to help you visit previously or often visited websites quicker without the need for typing the whole address.

For example if you previously visited http://www.yahoo.co.uk and you type www.y in your address bar you will be presented with the Yahoo address along with any other address that you have visited/typed in starting with Y. There is no need to type the rest of the address as you can simply select the suggested option.

If you wish to stop the auto completing function in Internet Explorer select the Tools Drop down menu at the top of the browser window, if you then select Internet Options from this drop down menu a new window will appear.

The Internet option window should have various tabs along the top - if you select the content tab you should see a section headed auto complete. If you select the auto complete button then a further window will appear where you can change where auto complete applies, to stop web addresses appearing ensure the "Web addresses" section is unticked.

For more information on auto complete please visit the following question asked on 17th July 2003:-
