Web Portals are websites that aim to give internet users a starting point when accessing the world wide web. The Web Portal will typically include most aspects that you may be looking for when you access the web including search tools, chat rooms, the latest news, shopping and many more services.

The biggest and most famous web portal is Yahoo.

There is however a large number of different portals and most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have thier own Web Portal and this is typically the page that is defaulted as the users home page when they sign up for an account with the ISP. Most users stay with this portal for familarity purposes and the portal provides a good source of income for the ISP through advertising and shopping revenue.

Over the last couple of years Web Portals have become more customizable and allow the users to choose the lay out of the page to suit their needs.
