I am having many navigational error pages coming up when trying for web pages (not necessarily every time and on no particular page. also yahoo games wont load even though I hit the java applet button. It tells me the page is 'done' and presents just a blank page. Some ecard, mainly yahoo will not open. I have closed obvious programmes I have which might prevent this and I have done tool/security levels etc etc ...Ideas please? I get the feeling something is blocking these things from opening but my knowledge is limited..

General Disclaimer - Happy Online would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work on some computers and may result in errors - you should only make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any consequences that may arise.

Some games rely on web plugins such as shockwave and/or flash - these often have to be download and installed for the games/applications to run. (If they have already been installed it may be worth deleting them in case they have become corrupted - you can then re-install them at a later date.)

In Internet Explorer you can see which web plugins have been installed in your browser by selecting the tools drop down menu followed by Internet Options, then you need to select the General Tab followed by the Settings option under Temporary Interent Files. In the window that appears select View Objects and a further window will appear - this will list your web plugins - if you have Shockwave it may be worth deleting it in case it has become corrupted. When you next visit a website that utilises Shockwave then you will be prompted to download it again.

Ok, if that did not work and you have experimented with your security levels and this does not look like it is the problem, you may be correct in assuming that some pages or content is being blocked.

There is various software (including Anti-Virus Software) that blocks some web content - typically adverts - this is done by making amendments to the host file on your PC, for more information regarding what may have happended to your host file visit the following question where this topic was previously covered. (Note where users are advised to delete references to msn you may need to delete references to the sites where the applications you are trying to run are.)

I followed instructions and restored my general tab to internet options. However, after setting my home page to msn.com another page keeps coming up and I can't get it to default to msn
