How much does it cost to subscribe to a newsgroup ?

General Disclaimer - Happy Online would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work on some computers and may result in errors - you should only make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any consequences that may arise.

It should not cost you anything to subscribe to a Newsgroup. Newsgroups are just part of the Internet and therefore no extra cost is involved (unless you need some additional software) - therefore the only cost to you is your normal Internet Connection and your phone bill.

To get started with Newsgroups and for an easy introduction visit the Google website www.google.com and select the Groups Tab. From here you will soon be able to search for and browse Newsgroups.

To Subscribe to a Newsgroup you will need a Newsreader - if you have Outlook Express this contains a Newsreader and you will need a News Server - your ISP should offer this service.

From Outlook Express you should be able to locate the available Newsgroups (Select the Tools Drop down menu followed by Newsgroups) - and then all you need to do is find Newsgroups that are of interest to you and Subscribe to them.
