Please give me a basic introduction to Newsgroups

Newsgroups act like message boards where internet users can discuss topics that are of interest to them. Users are able to post items that can be viewed by other users of the Newsgroup, other users can then respond to these items, start their own items and find out information about the subject matter.

Newsgroups are normally accessed through your email software. The most common email software is Microsoft Outlook. To access a list of newsgroups enter Microsoft Outlook and select the tools menu from the top of the program and then select the newsgroup option.

When you access the newsgroup section you will probably be given a long list of the available newsgroups - there is however a search section where you can narrow down to your interests.

So if you type something that is of interest to you in the search box you will probably find that subject is covered by a newsgroup. If you then select this newsgroup it will be added to your newsgroups in the folders section of Microsoft Outlook.

You will then be able to view what people are saying in this newsgroup, reply to messages and start your own topics within the newsgroup.

As the newsgroup has been added to your folders then it will be available each time you enter Microsoft Outlook.
