I was told if I don`t delete all the sites I have visited in the past year, that my computer will not function properly. I was told it makes memory low and causes it to freeze up. I am very lost and would appreciate any help

General Disclaimer - Happy Online would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work on some computers and may result in errors - you should only make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any consequences that may arise.

You may find that the more information that is stored in your temporary internet files may cause your system to slow down and sometimes freeze. (Freezing may typically occur when trying to retrieve this stored data.)

It is therefore a good idea to manage your disk space to improve performance. The easiest way to do this for your internet files is to change the amount of disk space the temporary internet files use - this can be achieved by selecting the Tools drop down menu followed by Internet Options and then selecting the Settings Button under the Temporary Internet Files Sub-Heading. A new window will appear headed Settings - within this window is the option to control the amount of disk space the Temporary Internet Files use.

Another option is to regularly delete your Temporary Internet Files - this can be done under the Tools drop down menu followed by Internet Options. Again look for the Temporary Internet Files Sub Heading and then the Delete Files, Delete Cookies buttons. (Note if you Delete Cookies some sites which you may have previously customised or log in to may lose the saved information. For example, a Cookie can be set which remembers that you have previously logged into a forum and therefore does not ask for you to log in again.)

If you do not wish to lose some files from your Temporary Internet Folders, then it may be worthwhile keeping this data separately, if so you can copy and paste the required files from the Temporary Internet Folders to another folder under for example "My Documents".
