Since the IP address consists of only 4 octets so the total possibilities of different IP address can be 255*255*255*255=4228250625. My question is that there can be users who want to connect at the same time and the number of users can far exceed this limit, so how does than everybody get a different IP address ?

4228250625 or 4.2bn is a huge number of IP addresses but the number of users currently does not exceed this limit. However with the increased usage of the internet this number is indeed threatened in the not to distant future.

However, the next generation of IP addresses is already in existence and is known as Internet Protocol Version 6 (The current/above detailed version is IP Version 4). Internet Protocal Version 6 will increase the number of IP addresses from 255*255*255*255 to 4294967296*4294967296*4294967296*4294967296 which equals over 340282366920938000000000000000000000000 IP Addresses.

This increased number of IP Addresses should be enough for a while !
