How can I open a free web site ?

General Disclaimer - Happy Online would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work on some computers and may result in errors - you should only make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any consequences that may arise.

If you want to have free web presence then some websites offer you the chance to have some webspace within their domain. The most famous of these are Tripod and Angelfire. In addition your ISP will often provide you with some free webspace.

The important thing for you to remember when you take up the option of webspace with these sites is that you really only have access to part of their website where you can place your web pages. The sites that provide these services virtually always place their adverts on the pages that you display.

If you want to have a website with a domain name (eg www.happy-online.co.uk) you will have to pay some money, however domain names can be very cheap.

Once you have the domain name you will need to have some Webspace - as explained you could have some free webspace and therefore just point your domain name to where your webpages are located in this free webspace. However this is not ideal as the subpages and files within this webspace will not be under your domain name (your domain will basically just redirect to the free webspace if you choose web pointing to a free webspace provider) and in addition your pages will also carry adverts on behalf of the free webspace providers.

The other alternative is to have an account with a Web Hosting Company where for a fee you can have your own webspace.
