What are Emoticons ?

Emoticons are typed symbols that are used to display a facial expression (on the side) - such as a happy face or a sad face. The use of Emoticons is common in Email, Chat Rooms and Forums.

The most common Emoticons are :-

:O) or :) or :-) - Smile

;O) or ;) or ;-) - Wink

:O( or :( or :-( - Sad

Some forums and chat rooms are programmed to understand Emoticons and when you type the symbols and post your message the programming may change the Emoticon to a more graphic representation of the required facial expression. (It is worth noting that Microsoft Word also changes some Emoticons (depending on user settings) to a more Graphic representation - try typing :) in Microsoft Word and see if anything happens.
