I have had my internet option to change my homepage disabled
by some kind of program I was tricked into downloading. The
option to change my homepage is completely grayed out what can
I do?
General Disclaimer - Happy Online
would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible
for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work
on some computers and may result in errors - you should only
make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any
consequences that may arise. If a program has changed your homepage and it is no longer
possible for you to change the homepage in the normal manner
you may have spyware on your PC. It is probably worthwhile looking
at some software that removes spyware - by doing a Google search
on Spyware you should be able to find more information and some
software that deletes these settings and behaviour.
There is however another way of changing your homepage, this
can be done by selecting the Start menu followed by run, if
you then type REGEDIT you will be presented with the Registry
editor - this is similar in format to Windows Explorer.
If you locate HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main you should be presented with a number of settings
- find the Start Page setting and click on this - a new window
should appear where you can enter the Homepage of your choice.
This should change your home page - however as stated above
it is worthwhile looking at software that blocks and deletes
spyware.
(Note Extreme Caution should be taken when making amendments
to the Registry and Happy Online are unable to accept any fault
should mistakes be made or errors occur. It is recommended that
you make a back up of the registry before making alterations)
If you have problems changing your home page or do not want
to amend the registry and would like to have a simple quick
to load home page that offers a web search facility you can
set Happy Online as your home page by selecting the following
