How do I find out the recent web activity of my children
and guests ?
General Disclaimer - Happy Online
would like to remind all visitors that they are responsible
for their own computer settings - some suggestions may not work
on some computers and may result in errors - you should only
make changes to your computer if you are comfortable with any
consequences that may arise. Assuming that the web activity has not been cleared then there
are a couple of ways that you can check the sites visited by
other users of your PC.
By far the best way is to open up the Browser History, in Internet
Explorer select the History button from the Standard Buttons
Toolbar, or alternatively select the View drop down menu followed
by Explorer Bar followed by History.
The Explorer Bar should open up showing the websites that have
previously been visited on your PC over a set number of days
- you should be able to simply select and view the websites
that have previously been visited. (To change the number of
days select Tools followed by Internet Options - a new window
should appear and under the General Tab of this window is the
History Sub-heading where you can change the number of days
the History is stored. You will probably also notice a clear
history option located here, and you can therefore see that
it is easy to remove trace of web activity from the browser
History.)
Alternatively you can access the Temporary Internet Files and
see what web pages and images have been downloaded onto your
PC. This can be accessed from the same place where you change
the History settings (Tools, Internet Options, General Tab),
this time however under the Temporary Interent Files Sub-heading
select the Settings Button and then the View Files Button from
the window that appears. Again, however, you can probably see
how easy it is to delete these files from options provided.
Site activity is recorded on other areas of your PC, however
the methods of retrieving this data is more complex.
