in an area known as Wearside.
Sunderland was a major ship building port
with ships being launced into the North Sea for over 100
years, however with the decline of ship building in the
UK this industry has moved away from the area.
Sunderland is now a vibrant city with modern
night clubs, bars and eating establishments.
Sunderland Football Club play their home
games at the fantastic Stadium of Light.

Out and About in and around Sunderland
Sunderland on the North East Coast rivals Newcaslte in
the reception it gives visitors on a night out on the
town.
Shops and Restraunts will keep most visitors more than
busy.
Further inland on the River Wear from Sunderland is the
more tranquil city of Durham with its spectacular Cathedral,
Castle and collection of fine buildings on the Hill above
the river.
A short journey north will take you to Newcastle, Gateshead
and South Sheilds.
